Native Texas Wildflower Seed Pack

This native Texas mix is an incredible mix of wildflower seeds that covers about 20 square feet. It is a blend of native annuals and perennials that provide a carpet of color throughout the spring and early summer. It's also the best value around.

This mix contains: Black-Eyed Susan, Clasping Coneflower, Indian Blanket, Lemon Mint, Mexican Hat, Prairie Coneflower, Plains Coreopsis, Texas Bluebonnet. Unlike so many of the other so-called native wildflower mixes, ours contain no "extras" of domesticated imports from Africa or Europe, nor are they packed with any rice husks or other inert matter to pad out the package and make it look like you're getting more than you really are.

These seeds are from Native American Seed (www.seedsource.com).

How to Grow Native Texas Wildflower Seeds (Best planting in Fall Aug thru Dec, or in the spring after the last frost)

  • Read your land – This mix is ideally suited to thrive in the unpredictable climate of the south

  • Prepare the site – Consider removing non-native alien species.  Loosen soil to a ¼” depth, rake smooth.

  • Act of Seeding – Scatter seeds on soil, like “feeding chickens.” Press to assure good seed to soil contact.

  • Water talk – Let it rain or keep moist until seeds sprout.  Do not apply fertilizer.

  • You may want to consider native plantings for your yard and garden.  Among the many native plant benefits are:

    • Less maintenance: Native plants are more resistant to disease, drought, and other environmental risks. They can also spread quickly to crowd out weeds.

    • Less fertilizer and pesticides: Native plants require less fertilizer and pesticides than lawns.

    • Less water: Native plants require less water than lawns.

  • Many nurseries carry native Texas plants that thrive and enhance your yard; Duncanville’s own Cox’s Farm Nursery 110 Azalea Lane, Duncanville, 75137, phone (214) 579-9833 carries Texas native plants and are also a wealth of knowledge.

    • The Keep Duncanville Beautiful Board hosts Native Landscaping workshops and include many helpful topics on native plants in your yard and garden, the benefits including pollinators and landscaping.  Also, the Duncanville Library has a Seed Library Program.

Be sure to put visiting Duncanville’s new Charles F. Ladd Nature Preserve at 609 W. Danieldale Rd on your list.  The City of Duncanville is currently completing the Master Plan process and work has been underway since the Preserve creation in July 2023 to establish a world class nature preserve right here in Texas helping make Duncanville the place to live in DFW.

The Indian Hills Master Naturalist Chapter are deeply engaged with the Ladd Preserve committed to its 1526 different species (and counting )native flora and fauna, in addition, the Texas Parks and Wildlife with Urban Wildlife Biologist Sam Kieschnick are heavily involved and great stewards.  There are a lot of opportunities to touch your “nature and outdoors” side.

You can volunteer, learn, educate, play, teach kids, meet new friends.  Just engage.
